Yes, you read it. I am wearing a 100% biodegradable top. This illusion blue tank top from Freitag is made of two botanical fibers, 58% viscose and 42% linen.
From my textile knowledge, I always believed that viscose was only a synthetic fabric. In fact, it’s a semi-synthetic fabric made of purified cellulose from wood pulp which is then modified with chemicals. However, Freitag works with House of Lenzing which produces natural viscose fiber (Lenzing Viscose®) from renewable raw materials of wood for the textile industry. How cool is that?
The relatively thick yet supple fabric calls for robustness, but the feeling on the skin stays pleasant. I was wearing this pale blue tank top on a balmy afternoon in Geneva and also for a hike in the blazing sun of Greece (see picture on my Instagram here). My upper body never felt “suffocated” nor “sweaty”, quite the contrary! Thanks to the moisture- and thermo-regulating fibers, it’s a treat to wear it.
This biodegradable top combines quality, longevity, sustainability, and on top of that it’s a subtle pastel blue which brings the right dose of femininity.
Since I got this tank top, I am paying more attention to the garment’s fabric making me more aware of sustainable fashion.
Do you guys know/wear eco-friendly fashion brands? Which ones? Feel free to leave a comment!
