Gili Meno

The past few months have been quite hectic, and we’re not ready to stop moving quite yet. After returning the keys of our apartment in Geneva two months ago, to take on a two-month trip in Southeast Asia, here we are back in Europe. We have put down our luggage and found a place to stay until the end of August in Madrid, specially because of the wedding of our friends on September the 1st. {By the way, what do you think about this dress for a country style wedding?}.

We are now actively looking for our next home…We have found the ideal city that corresponds to all of our wishes, likes and criteria whether that’s professionally or aesthetically, but most of all it corresponds to our lifestyle. All we got to do now is find the ideal apartment for us. I’m so excited to reveal more about that in the near future!

Meanwhile, today I take you to Indonesia, to the small island of Gili Meno in Lombok, to be precise. We left Canggu, Bali in a van to catch our boat at Padang Bai. They pick you up at your homestay or hotel and back, and it should cost between 450,000 and 550,000 IDR per person {28 à 35€}, not more. Gili Meno is one of the three Gili Islands, Gili T {Trawangan} is known more as a party island, Meno and Air are best known for being quiet and relaxing.
Without further ado, here’s more about our four full days in Gili Meno. You’ll find out about our ethical outfits, our hotel, and amazing activities.

And for you girls, who wish to dress up your man with mindfully made fashion brands, we are slowly going to introduce sustainable brands for men, with Julian as the model! In the photo above, Julian is wearing a white pima cotton t-shirt WE-AR & a pair of shorts of the same brand {not available anymore, but here is a similar one that’s now on sale! And you will find the boutiques in Canggu, Seminyak or Ubud}; and for sustainability’s sake, he’s wearing a pair of very old flip-flops with which he’s in a love/hate relationship, #30wears.
What do you think about this new introduction to men’s wear?

Where to stay | Seri Resort*

We stay at the beautiful white hotel, Seri Resort with a pool and an amazing view over the sea. The place is magnificent and very well taken care of {see the photos below to discover the room and surroundings of the resort} and the staff is super nice and caring. On an environmental note, the resort raises awareness about the use of water by asking guests not to throw anything in their toilets. Seri Resort has put in place a bio-system that allows them to reuse water to, among other things, water plants.
The only big disadvantage for us was the lack of a water refill available for guests. But no worries about that, there is one in a local shop not too far. You would just need to remember and refill your bottles in advance for the night when you go to sleep.
Seri Resort is also a member of the Bali Children Foundation, which helps kids with fewer resources find an education all around Indonesia, a beautiful initiative giving back to the community.

*Julian and I met the managers there, who were super nice to us and offered the stay. Words and thoughts on this post are our own.

Vegetarian restaurant and Bamboo huts for backpackers

There is a vegetarian restaurant entirely made of bamboo at Seri Resort, and they have yoga sessions on the first floor of the same eco-friendly building {see the photo below}. In front of the restaurant, one may find the bamboo huts offered by the resort, for backpackers or other travellers on a budget.

What to do | Activities

Gili Meno, like the other two Gilis, is a very small island that one could easily visit by foot in an afternoon. If you decide to go to Gili Meno you’ll see it is the place for adopting the slow life! And here you go, a few activities to do on the island:
– Get up at 6:30 am for the magnificent birth of a new day {photos above and below}.
– Lay down, relax and read a nice book on the beach. The best spots for that are the pool at Seri Resort and the beach just in front of Malias bungalows.
– Go around the island, by foot or rent a bike. We preferred to walk, with our feet in the water for the most part.
– Say goodbye to the sun, on the other side of the island. Sunsets with a coconut {without plastic straw} are the best!
– Go out on a boat excursion for snorkeling around the islands {or you could go scuba diving}. We chose to go snorkeling since we were heading to the Philippines next and wanted to reserve that for later. Snorkeling was a magical experience full of many colourful and different species of sea life and corals, like discovering a new world. We also saw huge turtles, some of them eating, some swimming around and heading to the surface to breathe. Some of the smaller turtles were incredibly cute! You can check out our video at the end of this post or here, you may see a bit of that amazing underwater world!
– Where to eat? the vegetarian restaurant at Seri resort & Mallias Restaurant where I had the best Gado-Gado of the whole trip and Julian is still drooling when he remembers their black bean vegetarian burger. Other than that, we tried many restaurants there and the food is generally quite good.
– Simply, relax and enjoy the beautiful views.
